A Warning and
a Guide for Parents
New DVD
outlines steps parents must take to keep
teens from
bullying – or face risk of criminal charges, civil liability
The tragic suicide of Phoebe Prince on January 14,
2010, has set off a series of consequences taking effect throughout the
country. The indictment of six students from
South Hadley High School,
in Massachusetts,
has set an example of using criminal law in school situations previously
viewed as “school discipline” issues. New laws are being passed calling
for criminal investigations and prosecutions when harassment, bullying
and cyber-bullying activities are deemed to be criminal in nature.
Victims and their parents are seeking civil damages as the result of
these activities – and the judicial system is upholding these rights.
Henry M. Quinlan, Esq., with long experience in the
area of school law and issues involving violence in schools, is issuing
a warning to parents that they must become involved through the DVD,
Bullying, Hazing and Parents –
A Guide for Parents
of Middle and High School Students.
Their children could become involved in criminal activities and or incur
civil liability as the result of their behavior. Parents could incur
enormous legal expenses, and in some cases incur civil liability
themselves.
The DVD outlines steps that parents can take to help
their children avoid involvement in the criminal justice system and to
avoid any issues of civil liability.
