Review of the Principal’s Library
of Plans, Strategies and Ideas of 2005
Timothy Purnell
Principal of Great Meadows Middle School
Great Meadows, NJ

The Principal’s Library of Plans, Strategies and Ideas of 2005 CD is a break through in the sharing of administrative ideas and strategies.  Too often in administration, we fail to utilize the most important resource… each other!  As a first-year middle school principal, I recall the continual search for new and innovative ideas to be exhausting and often unsuccessful.  Omni Publishing Co. has filled this void with the Principal’s Library of Plans, Strategies and Ideas of 2005 CD.  Each CD is loaded with successful ideas from across the nation.  The CD provides you with a brief synopsis of each cutting edge idea and, in some instances; the digest displays a contact person for assistance with the implementation of the idea.  These are innovative ideas that are sure to improve your school climate and culture, ultimately leading to school growth.  With our busy schedules, it is often difficult to find the time to conduct school visitations for best practices.  The Strategies and Ideas CD brings the best practices to your finger tips!  Thank you Omni Publishing!!!

Simply insert the CD into your computer and you are two clicks away from 500+ digests.  Personally, I use Netscape Navigator, but you may prefer to use Internet Explorer or any other type of web browser with the CD.  You can choose to click on a topical table of contents in alphabetical order or you may wish to search by a word or phrase.  If you choose to enter a topic of interest in the search bar, you will be instantly provided with several proven ideas related to the topic.  Each digest gives a brief abstract on the strategy, the location of the school and the newspaper that reported the program.  Sometimes as administrators we are approached by teachers who would like to try new and innovative ideas.  Why re-invent the wheel?  Search the CD database to uncover new and innovative ideas.

Thanks to this CD, my faculty meetings are now a time of idea sharing, rather than the dissemination of information.  Personally, I have discovered several new strategies using the DVDs.  In efforts to improve our standardized test scores on state achievement tests, we implemented two ideas directly from the Principal’s Idea Notebook.  Thanks to a high school in Charlotte, NC and McKinley Elementary School in San Francisco, California, we were able to develop a reform plan to address our test score deficiencies, ultimately leading to higher scores.  In addition to testing strategies and ideas, the CD is packed with other school related topics such as absenteeism, advanced placement classes, after school tutoring, budgeting, bullying, community service, discipline procedures, dress code, drop out rates, fundraising, leadership, parental involvement, policies, professional development, scheduling, school busing, tardiness, and volunteering.  Each digest on the CD rom is accurate and provides insightful ideas and strategies for principals.

This collection is a MUST HAVE for any new principal and certainly eye opening for veteran administrators.  Simply perusing the CD digests will astound you.  The CD will also save you from hours and hours of time spent searching the Internet and provide you with a reference list of schools that have shown proven success in the area of interest.  In addition, Henry Quinlan, publisher, is always available to provide assistance or answer any questions about the CD's via email.  Log on to http://www.omni-pub.com/ to view a sample issue of the Principal’s Library of Plans, Strategies and Ideas CD.  I’m sure that you won’t be disappointed.  The CD collection is only $97.95.
